1967 Martin 0-16NY
One of the most sought after folk/singer-songwriter guitars of the 1960’s, the “New Yorker” series of guitars were an attempt to semi-reissue a 20’s style guitar by Martin, and though not point-for-point recreations of a vintage 0 model, they came close to the semi-classical vibe that many 1920’s Martin’s carry.
With a spruce top, mahogany back and sides (and neck), and a small, single 0 body joined to the neck at the 12th fret, this guitar has a surprisingly large, warm, boomy sound despite its diminutive size. With a 1 7/8ths nut, it certainly has an early 20th Century feel, but the profile is more slim C than V.
These can only be strung with Silk and Steels at the very heaviest (Martin recommended 10 gauge strings from the factory) though they do have X-bracing, and thanks to the 60’s, were a little heavier built than their 20’s counterparts. This particular one, being from the late 60’s, has a Brazilian rosewood bridge and headstock overlay.
This particular example is in spectacular condition, with barely the expected wear for being nearly 60 years old. The saddle is fairly low, but the guitar is nice and playable right now.
All original. Comes with a 70’s blue hardshell case.
