2004 Rono 5-String Electric Mandolin
2004 Rono 5-String Electric Mandolin
Made right here in Longmont, CO, Ron Oates, more commonly known as Rono, has a long and storied history in electric mandolins, with storied players like Sierra Hull playing his instruments live and on records.
The body is solid mahogany with a laminated mahogany neck and a carved flame maple top, a la Les Paul. The fretboard is Coco Bolo rosewood with pearl and abalone inlays, matched by a Cocobolo headstock overlay. Tuning is handled by Gotoh 16:1 machines. It’s equipped with a custom mando-bucker pickup, made right here in CO, and CTS pots. The nut is unbleached bone.
The finish is ten coats of nitro, kept thin to let the instrument breathe. Scale length is 14", and the weight comes in at 4 lbs 5 oz.
This little electric gem is in a great condition for 21 years old, and has a nice, cool, custom built wooden case to go with it.
