1999 Flatiron Artist A5
1999 Flatiron Artist A5
Made well into the period of Gibson’s ownership of Flatiron, this great looking A5 Artist, the highest level of A5 that Flatiron made, is a nice, punchy, surprisingly vintage sounding mandolin.
With a sitka top, great, lovely looking flamed maple back and sides, a 1 1/16 nut that feels very Loar like, and an ebony bridge with a full contact foot made by Tom Ellis, and a saddle made by Yoichi Ueda of Wade mandolins. This mandolin has been refretted, recently most likely, with vintage style Gibson frets and plays excellently. There are one or two points of ebony tearout, but the fret work is quite good.
Overall very nice shape, couple of dings on the back of the neck, and one or two on the top.
Comes with the original hard shell case.
