1913 Gibson F2

$4,000.00

The Gibson F2, the “Lowest” level oval hole F style from Gibson’s early 20th century mandolin lineup, reached its final design by about 1910, having had the Orville Gibson designed 3-point body up until that point. This example, from 1913, retains the black top from previous years, as well as the interesting “half bound” scroll design that stayed until roughly 1915 or so.

The top is spruce, the sides are birch, and the back, interestingly, is either an exceptionally nice piece of flamed birch, or a one piece maple back, which would be exceedingly rare for both this time period and model of mandolin. Given Gibson’s history, one can never know, but our money leans towards the maple side, which makes this mandolin extra interesting.

Good to great condition, plays exceptionally well with all original hardware and frets. The majority of wear is on the top and the headstock, back and sides are in excellent shape.

Does not come with a case, but we have hardshell options available.
