1980 Hofner 470 SE2

$2,900.00

The Hofner 470 originally started its life as a carved top large body archtop, and eventually branched off into a number of different models, most of them in a more laminate, electric leaning direction than their solid top counterparts.

This 470 SE2, the dual pickup version, features what one could only call an excess of bling, but not to its detrement; Hofner has made a niche for themselves with their over-the-top decoration, and this 470 is no exception. Bound with what the guitar world lovingly describes as “Mother of Toilet Seat”, this guitar also features a number of highly intricate inlays, from the diagonal cut block inlays to the hand-done crest on the back, along with multiple layers of binding.

With a (presumably) laminate spruce top and laminate maple back and sides, along with two “dual coil” pickups that are Hofner’s version of the PAF, this guitar has a similar tonal quality to an ES-175- nice and thuddy, but still with a nice open woodiness. Gibson style controls as well.

25.5” scale, 1 20/32nds nut width with a zero fret.

In excellent condition, though there are some finish checks and one crack that has only propagated through the top layer of the laminate and no further.

Comes with the original hard shell case and a very cool Hofner booklet.
