Late 70's/Early 80's Yamaha SA2000
Late 70's/Early 80's Yamaha SA2000
Yamaha, over their near century long existence, has become one of the worlds leading manufacturers of everything from powerboat motors, to motorcycles, to pianos, to guitars (though the musical instrument company, formerly known as Nippon Gakki, has been a separate entity since 1955). Seen in the 1970’s as the budget alternative to the American made guitars they were emulating, the 70’s and 80’s era Yamahas have experienced a renaissance of their own in recent years, and this SA2000 from sometime around the turn of the 80’s is no exception.
Though not an exact copy of the 335, this SA2000, one of the highest level offerings of Yamaha semi-hollows, features many of the same aspects, including a laminate construction, a center block, a nicely C shaped, 1 11/16th nut, and Gibson style control scheme. Where Yamaha may have had the edge over Gibson in this time period is fit and finish: from rattle free, clipless saddles in the Tune-o-Matic style bridge, upgraded pickups in this model, Gold hardware, and a general sense of quality of construction not seen at Gibson at this time.
Condition wise, the guitar itself is quite good, with few marks from playing, though the hardware shows some corrosion in spots.
Comes with a hard case.
