The more sophisticated brother of one of the first guitars the Beatles ever played, the Hofner Club 60 was the German’s likely response to a certain single cutaway electric guitar, with the bridge too far of making a completely solid guitar preventing the Bavarian based company from fully committing to the rock n’ roll’ sound.

What we got instead by 1958, (and sort of what John Lennon got around 1959, though his was the simpler Club 40) was a hollow, in this case pressed spruce top, arched maple back guitar with installed pickups (by 1960) and a pearl heavy fretboard.

This example, likely from 1960, is in Blonde, likely all original, down to the Lyre style tailpiece. The one question might be the black pickguard, but given that Hofner used black pick guards previously and, for the most part, most Hofners were thrown together from wherever in the factory workers could get the pieces, there’s a distinct possibility the pickguard is original.
