2010 Rickenbacker 4003
2010 Rickenbacker 4003
The Rickenbacker 4000 series has been a staple of bass design since the early 1960s, with the 4001 setting the template for the company’s distinctive sound and look, gaining notoriety in the hands of players like Paul McCartney and Geddy Lee, to name a few.
By 1980 the 4003 replaced the 4001, carrying forward the same basic shape and features while refining the construction for more durability and broader appeal. Through the 2000s the 4003 remained Rickenbacker’s flagship bass, instantly recognizable for its heritage from, and often confused for, the 4001.
This 2010 example is finished in Jetglo, Rickenbacker’s black gloss. Construction is maple throughout with a bound maple neck and lacquered rosewood fingerboard, paired to Rickenbacker’s bespoke growly single-coil pickups. Hardware includes the company’s distinctive bridge/tailpiece assembly (and cover), a white pickguard, and vintage-style Rickenbacker brand tuners, all in chrome.
Compared to the earlier 4001, the 4003 uses a sturdier truss rod system designed to handle modern string tensions, slightly hotter pickups, and a revised wiring scheme that includes the modern standard mono output alongside the traditional Rick-O-Sound stereo jack. Scale length is 33 1/4", nut width 1 11/16".
In amazing condition, super clean, and comes with the original case.
