1965 Gibson Melody Maker D

$2,499.00

Originally introduced as an even cheaper alternative to the Les Paul Jr, the Melody Maker first hit the scene in 1959, and by 1965, had evolved into the double cut, sort of bizarre looking guitar you see here, which also happens to the one of the coolest old Gibsons money can buy. This is the “D” model, replete with both pickups as well as a tremolo.

Made of one solid block of mahogany, with a one-piece mahogany neck as well, Melody Makers, this one being no exception, are known for being particularly lively sounding, also thanks to their rather transparent sounding single coil pickups. This guitar also features the usual Les Paul style control scheme, and the rather short lived shorter style Vibrola.

This guitar has a 1 11/16th nut, predating the c. 1966 switch to the much narrower nuts of the late 60’s.

In good shape, with a repaired heel and replaced period tuners, as well as plenty of great looking checking throughout. Comes with a period, possibly original alligator style chipboard case. Cool!
