1961 Gibson Melody Maker
1961 Gibson Melody Maker
Originally introduced as an even cheaper alternative to the Les Paul Jr, the Melody Maker first hit the scene in 1959, and by 1961, the Melody Maker was practically the last single cut guitar you could buy from Gibson, the company transitioning into the double cut “solid guitar” (SG) by late 1960 for their main lineup.
Made of one solid block of mahogany, with a one-piece mahogany neck as well, Melody Makers, this one being no exception, are known for being particularly lively sounding, also thanks to their rather transparent sounding single coil pickups. The electronics on the single cut model from this era, interestingly, are entirely self contained- they can all be lifted off with the pickguard. They are also all original on this guitar, with just a wire added for grounding.
Nice comfy C shaped neck, also all one piece mahogany. Replaced nut.
In good shape, with plenty of checking throughout, but besides the nut is all original.
Replacement hard case.
