Built in the booming post war industrial period, this gorgeous old Kay was representative of a huge uptick in American popular music: whether it was the soon to be prevalent rock n’ roll, or the already popular Bluegrass, Kays were at the heart of the American string band.

In the rarer, arguably more desirable blonde finish, this Kay is the quintessential bluegrass bass: punchy, loud, and raw sounding, much less delicate and complex than its five figure German, all solid counterparts.

This example has been through some repairs, done by local bass legend Bob Ross (yes, that is his name), including a reglued bass bar, some top structural reinforcement, and a repair of the neck joint to increase stability and get things playing nicely. It has a new bridge as well, also made by Ross, and again, sounds absolutely killer.
