1928 Gibson PB-1
1928 Gibson PB-1
The longer scale version of the more popular TB series, this PB-1 from 1928 is one of the cleanest vintage instruments we’ve ever had in the store. Besides some checking on the mahogany resonator and a replacement bridge, this banjo is nearly spotless, and even features a vintage skin head, probably from the 1950’s or so.
PB’s are often used as conversions to 5 strings, though this one does not contain a Flathead tonering, rather a brass hope sitting on a maple rim, though this is the same rim and one piece flange found on the more expensive Mastertones. These late 20’s ones are a little less prone to conversion than their later counterparts.
This particular banjo features four resonator screws, as opposed to the more common three, though armrests were rare on both examples, making the armrest on this banjo is most likely an addition.
Shoe on bracket mount. Original Grover 2-tab tuners.
Comes with, amazingly, the original case.
