1965 Vox Super Reverb Twin (AC-30 Stack)
1965 Vox Super Reverb Twin (AC-30 Stack)
The Vox JMI Super Reverb Twin AC30 Piggyback is a rare and highly collectible version of the classic AC30, built during the golden JMI years in the mid-1960s. Delivering 30 watts of Class A power through four EL84s, it offers the unmistakable chime, punch, and smooth breakup that defined the British Invasion sound.
This model features three channels: Vib-Trem, Normal and Brilliant, and a distinctive slant-top “piggyback” head and matching speaker cabinet, designed in 1964 by Mick Bennet in the JMI Custom Shop. The setup provided the same tone as the standard combo, but with a little more flexibility and easier transport, as well as, for this particular model, a great sounding reverb that sets this amp apart from other ACs, AND a variable power output that lets you select between various Mains power levels Internationally. Do not recommend touching this one!
Details like black tolex, black plastic accoutrements, and the MK V swivel stand place this amp around 1965. The plate with the serial has been worn heavily, but the serial and badge are still legible.
This model has had a fair amount of wear, including several holes in the grille cloth, as well as several broken pieces of trim/badges. One of the Albion transformers has been replaced, as well as possibly a couple caps, but the Silver Bell speakers are all original and sound perfect.
