1976 Gallagher G-70 (J.W. Era)
1976 Gallagher G-70 (J.W. Era)
Made popular by Doc Watson, and in more recent years, by Doc devotee Billy Strings, Gallagher guitars have long been an underdog of sorts in the world of flat picking acoustic guitars, revered for their clarity and playability, especially in the era this was built, when J.W. Gallagher himself still had a hand in building these sought after instruments.
This example, from 1976, is a particularly nice one, with clear, bell like highs and nice, full bass. Top is sitka, presumably, and the back and sides are Indian rosewood.
The nut is 1 ¾, another advantage that some Gallaghers from this era had over other builders.
It’s also in great shape, with just some finish blemishing on the sides getting in the way of being one of the cleanest one we’ve seen: usually these feature pretty profound checking. The bridge and neck have both been reset/reglued.
Comes with the original case.
