1994 Santa Cruz Tony Rice
1994 Santa Cruz Tony Rice
Designed by Santa Cruz founder Richard Hoover, who, early in his career was Tony Rice’s guitar tech, along with Rice himself, the Santa Cruz Tony Rice is a modern interpretation of Tony’s famous “Antique”, a 1935 D-28 previously owned by Clarence White, and played on nearly every recording Rice did since he got the guitar in 1975.
This example, from 1994, is the standard Indian rosewood model, coupled with Sitka spruce, replete with signature large soundhole, bound fretboard, plain headstock with rosewood overlay, and the lovely Santa Cruz logo.
The neck on the Tony Rice is a surprisingly slim rounded V with a 1 11/16th nut, taken right from Tony’s vintage D-28, which, according to him, was actually the neck from an OM-28, mistakenly installed by Martin at the factory.
This example is in great shape, with barely a mark on it from 30 years of use. Plays great and sounds even better.
Comes with the original case.
