1991 D.W. Stevens M-38
1991 D.W. Stevens M-38
Dennis Wayne Stevens, known to many as “Denny”, was a Colorado based luthier known for his fantastic quality archtop guitars. Though his instruments never reached the International level of fame some of his contemporaries achieved, D.W. Stevens guitars are highly regarded amongst Colorado (and surrounding states) based Jazz players, for their warm, woody quality and handmade appeal.
Though he’s most remembered for his archtop jazz guitars, Stevens actually build close to five times as many flat top acoustics- 130 versus 33 (amongst mandolins, classical, etc.) This example, from 1991, is his M-38 model, a narrow shouldered, psuedo small dreadnought with a wide lower bout (16.4”) and narrow upper bout (12”), and a full dreadnought depth, making this guitar similar in size to a Bourgeois Banjo Killer or a Collings C10.
This guitar has a spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, (with a 1 11/16 nut, slim C shape) and a lovely stained sunburst finish.
Great condition, setup well and barely and marks on it besides expected use wear.
Comes with a hardshell case.
