Made right at the tail end of Martin’s longtime affair with the now-revered Brazilian rosewood, which was soon to be excised from American guitar production due to over-harvesting by the furniture industry, this D-35 represents possibly the ideal of the tone players have come to love from Martin’s “other dreadnought” - even keeled, loud, and full.

With ¼” braces instead of the usual 5/16ths, the D-35 tended to have a more immediate response than the other dreads in Martin’s lineup, sometimes at the cost of longevity, but this one has seen its way through the years unscathed, save for the usual play wear.

With a 1 11/16th nut and a fairly slim neck profile on the mahogany neck, this guitar is much more suited to 60’s folk or rock than the usual bluegrass people have come to expect from dreadnoughts, though tonally, this guitar can keep up with most 40’s D-28s, so if you like small necks as a flat picker, this is the one for you!
