1968 Gibson J-160E

$3,699.00

CALLING ALL JOHN LENNON FANS!

This is the venerable J-160E, the laminated topped, mahogany back and sided electric brother to the J-45, most notably used by Beatle John Lennon both with the band and in his solo years.

This example, from 1968, is the thin nutted version, with a 1 9/16 nut, making for a nearly electric guitar like experience. Tonally, these instruments are much more in line with an archtop guitar or semi-hollow electric than they are an acoustic, as the laminated spruce tops tended to be fairly heavy and heavily braced as well, with the intention of reducing feedback when plugged in.

The back and sides are solid mahogany, and have seen many a bar and club, and are fairly worn in as a result, but it’s all part of the mojo.

The original adjustable saddle has been filled and replaced with a drop in one, significantly improving the acoustic tone of this instrument.

The electronics are all original, with the witch-hat knobs giving a distinct late-60’s look.

The piece of tape on the headstock is covering up the previous owner’s social security number, a common anti-theft method of the 1960’s and 70’s. .

Comes with a new hard case.
