1960 Gibson L-7C
1960 Gibson L-7C
Gibson’s L-7C was built from 1949 through 1972, sharing the same dimensions, materials, bracing, and scale as its far pricier sibling, the L-5C. This particular example—according to archtop.com, one of only 81 made that year, is a rarity, having never been fitted with a pickup.
This particular example from 1959 has evidently been extremely carefully looked after, with no cracks, no pick or buckle rash, not even any fretwear really. The dark walnut stain highlights some lovely curly maple on the back and neck. All of the multi-ply binding remains original and snug, still showing its little fret-nibs from the factory fretwork.
This great old gal has all the volume and dexterity of an L5 from the same year, and is light to boot. The neck has a nut sitting in at 1 11/16" with a comfortable C shape, common for Gibsons in this era.
The pickguard is a vintage period replacement, but otherwise this beauty is all original.
Comes with a hard shell case.
