1957 Martin D-18
1957 Martin D-18
Perhaps the most loved acoustic guitar of all time, the Martin D-18 has rarely had an era where they weren’t some of the most recognizable and, frankly, good sounding acoustics out there. The early 1950’s were the start of a renaissance for guitars in general, mostly thanks to rock n’ roll, but also due to the consistent sight of Martin guitars all over film and television, from the Flatt and Scruggs Opry TV show, to the Andy Griffith show and more. By the late 1950’s, Martin’s influence was nearly completely occupying the zeitgeist in the minds of folk, rock, and bluegrass players alike.
This 1957 D-18 is a great example of why, with a big, open sound, bright but not tinny, with its sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and thin, vintage, original nitro finish. It has been refretted at some point, with the fretboard planed, as the nut is a little shorter than normal, but still the normal, comfortable 1 11/16” wide. The bridge is a replacement, made by Glenn here at the Pickin’ Parlor years ago, and overall the whole guitar is mighty playable.
Finish is in fair shape, with wear throughout, including some flaking on the back.
Comes with a newer hard case.
