1951 Gibson L-7C
1951 Gibson L-7C
Although ostensibly the same guitar as the flagship L-5, the L-7 was the slightly more affordable younger brother, with less visual flair but an altogether directly comparable sound and playing experience. Originally introduced in 1932, it featured the same carved spruce top and carved maple back and sides as the L-5, just with a brown finish on the latter as opposed to the more expensive sunburst. The binding, inlays, and hardware were also less expensive, with nickel and rosewood taking the place of gold plating and high end ebony.
This particular example is a remarkably clean specimen from 1951, once the design had shifted to a 17” archtop, plus the elegant venetian cutaway introduced in 1948. With all the original hardware, finish, even the original black plastic pickguard that usually crumbles away/warps beyond recognition, this guitar is a true museum piece.
Very few finish scratches, ridiculously good shape for its age, with just one tiny bit of stable separation of the top in the center seam by the tailpiece Plays great.
Comes with the original hard shell case.
This is one of two 1951 L-7C’s we currently possess. Please call for more information.
