Gibson A-3 - 1918 to 1922 - w/hsc --- $1800 Price
Gibson is perhaps the most famous name in modern mandolins. Their innovations specifically from Lloyd Loar defined the sound of the modern instruments, and their variations on the old timey instruments inspired instruments like this one. Gibson introduced the A-3 in 1902.
This is a standard Gibson A-3 with a white top. It has Birch back and sides, a spruce top, and adjustable ebony bridge, the original pickguard, binding on the fingerboard and body, a flourish inlay in the peghead, new tuners, and a two-piece maple neck. It has the original Tailpiece and cover. It has been refinished. the scale length is 13 7/8" and the nut width is 1 3/16".
This is a great vintage players instrument. It has been nicely refinished which might make it less desirable to a collector, but to a player it looks great and sounds awesome. It's really not a bluegrass mandolin, but Celtic stuff and old time fiddle music sounds great on this thing and it needs someone to play it.
